We are Roger and Lou and we both worked for a large computer corporation in Hampshire until 2001 when we left the rat race and moved to rural West Wales. The pace of life here is much slower, which can be a bit frustrating at times, but on the whole we wouldn't go back. We bought our farm, some alpacas, some young ewes and a ram. We chose alpacas because they are graceful animals that supply us with wonderful fibre which we sell for hand spinning. The sheep were originally brought in to keep the grass under control, as it would take a large herd of alpacas to eat it all! Our original flock of Beulah Speckle Face ewes have been sold on and we now keep Llanwenogs. These are an attractive looking sheep with a creamy fleece, black faces and legs. The breed name is taken from the parish of Llanwenog which is only a few miles from us. The Llanwenog breed is on the rare breed list, but numbers are slowly increasing as more people discover this docile and prolific sheep. We are members of the Llanwenog Sheep Society. Lou is a member of the Ceredigion Guild of Weavers, Spinners, and Dyers. |
